CURLING
Curling
is exactly what it sounds like; getting your material
to take on a curve. Some folks suggest laying a piece
flat across the edge of a desk or table and dragging
it roughly back and forth. This method will work,
but it has its flaws. One big risk is tearing. If
you do not hold the piece firmly and pull evenly,
the edge of the table will rip right through your
piece! Also, I have never been able to use this method
myself with causing uneven warping and even unwanted
creases!
A
better method is to use a rolling pin (or a medium
thick piece of dowel) and a block of foam. Lay your
piece face down on the block of foam and gently roll
your pin (or dowel) back and forth along the piece.
The foam provides a stable backer and ample resistance
to curl a piece of card paper. If you are using standard
weight paper, curling shouldn't be an issue, so you
shouldn't need to use this method with regular paper.
IF, for some reason you really want to do this with
standard weight paper, you should place a sheet of
light card paper between the paper piece and the foam.
Otherwise, the paper edge will likely catch on the
foam or dowel and create an unwanted wrinkle!
