PAPER
The
weight of paper products is determined by how much
a particular quantity weighs...which is why the rating
is called its "weight". "Sheet"
paper products - like what we use in our printers,
and hence for these castles - are rated by the weight
of a ream. There are 500 sheets in a ream, so if the
weight rating of your paper is "22", then
500 sheets of your paper weighs 22-lbs. (standard
printer paper). At 30lbs-40lbs we call it construction
paper, and anything above 50-lbs is usually considered
card, or card stock.
Standard
paper is suitable for most paper models, including
our castle designs. However, the larger the pieces,
the less stable they will be. That is why most paper
buildings are actually constructed of heavier paper,
also called card.
For
castles (and other buildings) card is is the preferred
weight to use. If you cannot find card stock sheets,
it is perfectly fine to print your castles on regular
paper, and then glue this to heavier material like
cereal box or other light weight packaging. Unless
you are building large enough to actually fit into
yourself, you should stay away from corrugated cardboard.
