Call
it card paper, card stock, or Bristol board... it
is all made of paper. Card is thicker than standard
paper, and just like paper it is rated by its weight.
Card stock comes in a wide variety of weight
and color. For model construction we suggest any
weight from 55-lbs to 70-lbs, and using white or
manilla (light cream color) for the best
print results. 67-lbs card stock is what we find
easily in our neighborhood, and that is what
we recommend for our castle designs. It is heavy
(thick) enough to be sturdy without causing problems
for most home printers. It scores easily, cuts easily,
and takes glue well without warping or puckering.
110-lbs
is the heaviest weight card stock we have used,
and it is really too heavy to be practical.
Scored folds show as a white line, which destroys
the illusion of the texture patterns. Because we
bought it, we use it sometimes for extra strength
or as a base for completed models, but otherwise
we advise against such heavy card material.
